The hidden MadonnaHow many images of Mary are there in Melk Abbey? Which ones make us pause, and which do we pass by with barely a thought? Which touch us in a special way? Are some traces already lost? Alexander Hauer, a former Abbey scholar, embarks on a search for the ›hidden Madonna‹, taking his audience with him on a very personal tour of diverse portraits of Mary in Melk Abbey. He interweaves these with stories, associations and literature. Special attention is paid to the poet Ava von Melk and the ›Melker Marienlied‹ (›Melk Mary Song‹) from the 12th century, which will be premiered in a new setting during the Baroque Festival on 7 June.
